What do the Taiwanese actually think about Japan?
Tuesday, November 11. 2008, 19.30, Copenhagen
Location: Kulturstaldene, Onkel Dannys Plads 1-9, København V

We mainly hear about Taiwan’s controversies with China. Far less is said about Taiwan’s positive relation to Japan. Taiwan was Japan’s first colony and Japan dictated the everyday life in Taiwan for 50 years from 1895 until 1945. Does the colonial period come into play in the present relation and in which way?
Jens Sejrup gives an insight into the Taiwanese mixed relation to Japan which at the same time was an authoritarian superiority and progressive initiator for the modern Taiwan.
Presentation by Jens Sejrup, ph.d. student in Japanese, University of Copenhagen.
