No statements seem too ridiculous in Taiwan, with the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) and its unbelievable claims. The KMT promotes national policies that bear no relation to the realities on the streets and in the homes of Taiwan. The historic trade agreement between Taiwan and China that is going to be signed on June 29-30 is politically explosive. The reasons being the lack of democratic involvement in the negotiations and that the agreement appears to be based on the One China policy which the vast majority of the Taiwanese oppose. The agreement itself can provide Taiwan with important trade benefits if used wisely but China will continue to hurt Taiwan by preventing Taiwan from entering free trade agreements with other countries. Taiwan's new Personal Data Protection Act (個人資料保護法) puts bloggers and non-governmental associations at risk by using vague terms like "public interest". Worse, the act is completely unnecessary and it harms Taiwan's democratic reputation. Read more here...
