Butterflies from Taiwan in the Zoo

By Taiwan Corner’s man on the location!

Keep your eyes open next time you visit the Tropical House in the Zoological Garden in Copenhagen. There are plenty of butterflies from Taiwan swarming around in their colorful splendor.

The living exhibition on butterflies from Taiwan can be seen until the end of April 2009 and is established after the Copenhagen Zoo entered an agreement with the Taipei Zoo at the end of February - an agreement which is obtained by Taiwan's Representative Office in Denmark.

Butterflies are shipped from Taiwan, while still in the pupa state and when they arrive Copenhagen Zoo, the animal keeper put them into the pupa cabinet, where they during one to two weeks will hatch and fly around in their new surroundings, which look quite similar to the environments they are use to from Taiwan since the Tropical House in Copenhagen Zoo makes up a tropical forest with an average temperature of 26 degrees and with plants like those that butterflies from Taiwan usually feed themselves from.

We recommend everybody of all ages to experience the living butterfly exhibition. Taiwan Corner visited the exhibition and shot a number of photos that can be seen here...
